Most biological parents find raising teenagers challenging. In step- and blended families the challenges can feel so much greater! My work with teens is based on two principles: Work with, not against, the parent/step-parent;and, with compassion but also with honesty, hold the teenager accountable.

I bring an opened ear, honest challenges, and, when needed, straight ahead advice to my work with adolescents to help them move beyond what they believe they can do to make positive changes in their lives and families. Typically, I might incorporate individual and family therapy, as well as on-going consultations with the parent-step parent couple and other significant adults in the teens life, such as teachers, close family friends and extended family. My goal is to help the teen and the parent/step-parent to thrive together with less stress and worry and with confidence that there is a positive road ahead for the teen and the family.

I work to help teens with the following problems:

• Coping with divorce, upheaval
   and changes in family structure
• Depression
• Anger and violence
• Cutting and self-harm
• Extreme defiance and disrespect
• Eating disorders
• School troubles
• Body image issues
• Breaking the law
• Suicide attempts
• Age-inappropriate sexual behavior
• Low self-esteem
• Fire starting
• Anxiety and panic

and:

• Step- and blended-family specific issues
that may contribute to the above

I have helped many adolescents. If you are looking for help call me
